Hi! This is us....
"to love yourself gets easier with age, but remember my little one, gaze another way every day because the wonder of the world will always amaze"
Hi, my name is Ana and that's my daughter Zahara in the photo with me. I started this website to share my experience and knowledge on baby-led weaning or the term I prefer baby-led feeding. I have let Zahara feed herself from age 6 months, she eats at her pace and chooses from a varied and balanced selection of foods that I offer. She is now nearly 2 years old and has fed herself a worldly selection of food from 6 months; as I thought how best to introduce her to food than to cook recipes from across the globe. From me and my husbands shoe-string travels we have acquired a love of food from around the world, so join us on our world zest journey; introduce your baby to a world of flavour, texture, and colour – fully embracing the ethos of Gill Rapley’s Baby-led weaning – the lady that first coined the term and the approach.
I will be sharing recipes, tips and interesting facts. I always try and think of interesting names for dishes so once Zahara's conversation skills have developed this will allow a varied and interesting meal-time story – this too embraces the ethos of baby-led weaning whereby family meal-times and conversations are said to support and strengthen development of speech.
I do not invent hidden veg or overloaded “healthy” ingredients in dishes, as I don't believe that is a good approach in developing a solid and rounded relationship with food, everything is healthy in a balanced diet. If you have always undertaken the ‘leave what you don't want’ approach of baby-led weaning and have offered a balanced selection across the day/week/month then you child is probably making the right choice; for example it is more than likely that they just don't need the veg that week but need to binge on protein. The key to baby-led weaning is to trust your baby. If your child is meeting the trio of indicators of good health - teeth emerging, weight percentile maintained and developmental milestones reached then you should have peace of mind all is ok, if otherwise it's probably best to seek professional help from your GP.
I do provide recipes of meals that have been eaten in different countries for some time and so speak for themselves in terms of deliciousness. I have developed these recipes so that they are quick and/or easy for a mum/dad to cook, or easier for little one to eat, i.e. easier to handle in little hands and manipulate in tiny, mostly toothless mouths, and so they are low in salt/sugar. I occasionally provide mash-up cuisines, where I have put two different country staples together, just for fun, and cause I can. The key thing is that these recipes are for everyone to eat, you are cooking one thing for yourself and your baby to share.
I have a PhD in the sciences and my husband is a sports scientist by training, so we have a bit knowledge on nutrition. I have also researched food/recipes/nutrition in general since I became pregnant and even more since I have been cooking for my little family; I am no expert, but I am excited to share my journey with you. I am happy to collaborate so do get in touch if you have ideas for this project, also if you have any questions do get in touch and I will try to answer them on the basis of my experience to date.
Ps follow me on social media to keep-up with my new creations.
